Modal Sosial Kegiatan ‘Ngopi Gratis’sebagai Upaya Komunitas Seperkopian Jatiwangi Membangun Budaya Kopi Sehat Di Majalengka
Abstract
This study aims to analyze how social capital is formed and utilized by the Seperkopian Jatiwangi Community through the weekly “Ngopi Gratis” (Free Coffee) activities held at Alun-Alun Majalengka. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through direct observation, informal interviews, and documentation of activities. The findings reveal that social capital within this community is manifested through three key indicators: networks, trust, and reciprocity. Social networks are established through cross-collaboration among coffee practitioners baristas, café owners, roasteries, and coffee enthusiasts who were first brought together intensively during the 2025 Jatiwangi Brewers Cup. Trust developed through regular face-to-face interactions during the free coffee events, enabling members to voluntarily share skills and resources. Meanwhile, reciprocity emerged through a culture of mutual assistance, both among members and between the community and visiting participants. The free coffee activities also serve as an informal educational medium to promote healthier coffee consumption habits and strengthen bridging social capital through support from local roasteries. In addition, the planned fundraising initiative for flood victims in North Sumatra demonstrates the expansion of linking social capital as an expression of public solidarity. This study concludes that social capital serves as the fundamental basis that enables the community to sustain its activities and generate positive social impact, while also illustrating that hobby-based communities have the potential to become agents of social change at the local level.
