Local Wisdom–Based Augmented Reality in Discovery Learning to Enhance Critical Thinking Skills

Abstract
The development of educational technology has demanded learning innovations that were capable of increasing student engagement while preserving local cultural values. This literature study was intended to analyze the integration of local-wisdom-based Augmented Reality within the Discovery Learning model and to examine its contribution to the improvement of elementary students’ critical thinking skills. The research method employed a systematic review of national and international articles published within the previous five years that were relevant to AR, Discovery Learning, local wisdom, and critical thinking. The findings indicated that the integration of AR into the Discovery Learning model had strengthened concept exploration by providing more concrete and meaningful learning experiences, while the incorporation of local wisdom had offered a cultural context that enriched the discovery process. The combination of these two elements has been shown to enhance students’ critical thinking. The implementation of local-wisdom-based AR within the Discovery Learning model possessed the potential to serve as an innovative and relevant instructional strategy for elementary education. This study recommended the development of more adaptive and collaborative AR designs that were aligned with local cultural characteristics and curricular requirements.
