Development of an e-module for science and natural sciences on earth and space to improve learning outcomes and critical thinking of school students

The low learning outcomes and critical thinking skills of elementary school students are caused by conventional learning methods and limited learning resources. Furthermore, teachers tend to use lectures and memorization, resulting in low student reading interest and less than optimal conceptual understanding. Critical thinking is an important 21st-century skill for students in the digital era. Innovative, engaging, and interactive teaching materials are needed as a solution. The purpose of this study is to develop a Google Sites-based Social Studies E-Module as a solution to improve students' learning outcomes and critical thinking skills. This development research uses the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model. The results show that the Google Sites-based Social Studies E-Module has a very high level of validity. The validity of the E-Module is 89.47%, the validity of the material is 92.19%, and the validity of practitioners is 96.49% and is declared suitable for use in learning. This E-Module is also declared very practical based on the results of observations of learning implementation of 91.25% and student response questionnaires of 96.29%. Data on students' learning outcomes and critical thinking were obtained from the average pretest and posttest scores. The recapitulation of N-Gain learning outcomes from the average pretest score was 58.4 and the average posttest score was 83.6 with an N-Gain of 0.6 in the medium criteria. The recapitulation of N-Gain critical thinking from the average pretest score was 62.8 and the average posttest score was 88.4 with an N-Gain of 0.7 in the high criteria.
