Abstract

Gross motor ability plays a crucial role in the physical, cognitive and social development of elementery school children, particularly with regard to academic achievement and social interaction. However, the advancement of digital technology has altered children’s play patterns, causing them to spend more time on electronic devices than engaging in physical activities, which could hinder motor development. This study aims to explore the role of the traditional Kopral game in developing gross motor ability in elementary school students. A quantitative experimental method was used to compare gross motor ability development between the experimental and control groups. The results showed that the control group experienced minimal improvement, whereas the experimental group exhibited significant changes, moving from the low to high and very high categories. A t-test revealed that the improvement in gross motor ability in the experimental group was notably greater than in the control group (p < 0.05; t-count = 10.262 > t-table = 2.021). These findings suggest that the traditional Kopral game is effective in enhancing students’ gross motor ability.
