Differences in Training Motivation of Early and Adolescent Badminton Athletes in Bantul District

Training motivation is an important factor in the success of badminton athletes, but studies comparing motivation between young and adolescent athletes are still limited, especially in the Bantul Regency area. Purpose: (1) identifying the training motivation of young athletes; (2) identifying the training motivation of adolescent athletes; and (3) analyzing the differences in training motivation between the two age groups. This study used a descriptive quantitative approach with questionnaires, involving 60 early-age athletes and 40 adolescent athletes from 7 clubs, and analyzed the data using independent sample t-tests. The study found that: (1) Training motivation among early age badminton athletes in Bantul Regency is categorized as very high (63.3% or 19 athletes), high (20% or 6 athletes), moderate (6.7% or 2 athletes), low (6.7% or 2 athletes), and very low (3.3% or 1 athlete); (2) Training motivation among teenage athletes is categorized as very high (13.3% or 4 athletes), high (23.3% or 7 athletes), moderate (43.3% or 13 athletes), low (10% or 3 athletes), and very low (10% or 3 athletes); (3) There is no significant difference in training motivation between early age and teenage athletes, as indicated by the Independent Sample T-test result of 0.132 (p > 0.05), which leads to the acceptance of the null hypothesis (H0) and rejection of the alternative hypothesis (HA). Age category did not significantly affect exercise motivation, although younger athletes showed higher descriptive motivation
