Major factors that affecting females’ football participation in Kaffa zone secondary schools, south west Ethiopia

The main purpose of this research was to assess the major factors that affecting females’ football participation in Kaffa Zone secondary schools, South West Ethiopia. The researches were adopted descriptive survey method and a variety of data gathering instruments such as, questionnaire, interview and observation. The total population of this study was 11377; of 11346 secondary school female students’ (from grade 9th -12th in 2013 E.C/2020/21), 17 HPE Teachers’ and 14 secondary school directors’ in Kaffa zone, South West Ethiopia. The sample population of the study was 378 (from the target population of 11346 female students’ selected by ‘‘Taro Yamani formula’’) and 17 HPE teachers. The sampling techniques used in this study were on the basis of the availability, quota and simple random sampling. The data collected from the participants were analyzed using tables in the form of frequency and percentage and interpreted by means of both qualitative and quantitative analysis method. As the result, most of the students and HPE teachers replied that their schools haven’t enough sport materials and facilities. The majority of female students and teachers replied that females in football sport were influenced by a variety of environmental variables such as: less motivation, lack of awareness, cultural, socio-economic, family influence, and biological, shortage of sport material and facilities, and psychological factors. In order to meet the needs of female students, the problems shall be alleviated through cooperation among stakeholders, government and concerned bodies. Depending on the result of the findings, it is recommended that the schools shall allocate enough budget to fulfill sport material and facilities including for teachers sport suits. HPE teachers, parents and the community shall encourage female students in football sport. MOE shall evaluate and modify the curriculum of HPE subject and increase the number of periods per week. And further researches shall be conducted in this area with different variables.
