Menjaga Kesehatan Rongga Mulut Untuk Mencegah Berbagai Penyakit
Abstract
Background: Oral health is an important aspect of overall health, particularly for the elderly. As people age, various physiological changes occur that affect the function of the oral cavity. This makes older adults more vulnerable to various oral health issues, such as dental caries, gingivitis, periodontal disease, oral fungal infections, and difficulties in chewing and speaking. If these problems are not adequately addressed, they can not only diminish quality of life but also potentially serve as gateways to more serious systemic diseases. Objective: To enhance the knowledge of the elderly regarding how to maintain oral health. Methods: The activities were carried out in five stages: preparation, implementation, assistance, evaluation, and program sustainability. Results: A comparison of knowledge before and after education on maintaining oral health showed an increase in knowledge, with initial knowledge levels among the elderly being low at approximately 3.1% and improving to a sufficient level of 3.1%. The number of elderly individuals with good knowledge increased from 23 (71.9%) to 31 (96.9%). Conclusion: There was an increase in the knowledge of the elderly before and after education on maintaining oral health.
